A lot of people in our family were constantly complaining about the legalization of medical marijuana in our state.
None of them thought it should be legal, and all they wanted to do was fight amongst themselves.
My grandmother sat at the back of the room just watching them and saying they were all fools. She called me over and asked how many of them I thought had used marijuana when they were younger. I didn’t think any of them had, since they were so against medical marijuana. She laughed and pointed to everyone and said her family were fools. She said there were only two of them she didn’t think had ever used marijuana, and that’s only because we did not catch them. I asked Gran what she thought about legalizing medical marijuana. She got blunt with me, but basically she couldn’t understand why people were protesting it for so long. It shocked me when I heard she had been using marijuana since long before my mom was born. She used it to calm her nerves. Now, they call it depression and anxiety, but back then it was a nervous condition. Now that medical marijuana was legal, she regularly used marijuana.for her arthritis and anxieties. Had she told me this when I was younger, I would have thought she was kidding. Now that she is older, and I am older, we have talked about medical marijuana and other subjects that would have been taboo years ago. She has swayed me in how I feel about medical marijuana, and I’m glad I’ve gotten to know grandma like I have.
