After thirty years of smoking weed, I doubt I will ever be able to be casual about it with the police.
Up until the last 2 years, it was possible to be sent to jail, or even prison, for simple possession of marijuana.
Thank goodness those barbaric laws have been overturned, at least somewhat. I feel this country still has a long way to go with legalization. In the meantime we have made a lot of progress with legalizing medical cannabis. The problem for me is that I don’t have a valid medical reason to have medical cannabis, so my doctor won’t prescribe it for me. If recreational use was legal then it would be easy and I could just walk into any cannabis dispensary I wanted and use my ID card. I have been to other cities where the only thing you need to buy medical cannabis is a legal ID card, and to be over the age of 21. One day my city will have those same laws, but until then I just have to wait. It is maddening to know that many of my friends can smoke medical cannabis legally, and I still feel like a criminal. Back to my original point, even when I do have a medical cannabis prescription card, I will still be nervous about the cops. For my entire life I’ve felt like a criminal because I enjoy getting high with cannabis and vape products. It has become so deeply ingrained that even when medical cannabis is 100% legal for everyone, I will still be nervous about getting busted.
