What started as a crackpot idea has slowly become a neighborhood institution.
During the COVID lockdown, my roommate Ben and I were trapped at the house for several weeks.
When cabin fever started to set in, we made projects to keep us busy. One of those projects was setting up a large screen in the backyard for showing movies, and then arranging the yard itself into a viewing area. It turned out great, and we relieved boredom by watching movies under the stars and smoking copious amounts of medical cannabis. When society started to open back up, we found that a lot of our neighbors were interested in hanging out, smoking cannabis, and watching movies in the backyard with us. It’s so funny because I thought I would be excited to go back out into the world, but instead we just threw a cannabis and movie watching party and invited everyone over! Now that I had gotten used to sitting outside, smoking cannabis and eating whatever snacks I liked, I didn’t want to go back to the movie theater. If the neighborhood kids wanted to come hang out, we would switch over to cannabis edibles, so as not to blow smoke on the children. It started happening every Friday, and in addition to cannabis and movies we started having a cookout, as well. It started as an act of desperation, and turned into a really fun weekly event. Medical cannabis definitely makes it stand out as a great movie watching experience, so I always prefer it when the kids don’t come over.
