For the last four years I have worked behind the counter at the local cannabis dispensary.
When I first started here, it was only legal for medical purposes.
A lot of my job was on the computer, entering the insurance information for our clients, adding them to the state and federal databases, and contacting doctors. We had to jump through a lot of hoops just to get sick people then medicine they needed. It was a boring job, but it made me feel good to know I was fighting the corrupt system to help people get the cannabis they needed. Then the laws changed, and recreational cannabis use became legal, and the whole job changed. Things are better now, don’t get me wrong, but it isn’t as rewarding selling cannabis to dumb college kids as it is providing help to the sick and elderly. We still have most of our old customers, and that is where my priority lays, but recreational cannabis has made our business more successful than I ever dreamed. I may mock the college kids, but they consume an insane amount of cannabis, and I will sell a full ounce to some of these kids every single week. I suspect some of them are breaking the weight up into individual grams and selling the cannabis to their friends. That isn’t really my problem, so long as they have the right ID and paperwork to purchase cannabis what they do with it is their business. I am just glad they spend so much money, so I can keep my focus on providing cannabis to the sick and elderly.
