Every year, I have a furnace tune up performed by a certified and licensed contractor.
There are a lot of great reasons to have a furnace tune-up performed.
A furnace tune up can find minor issues and help you avoid the worst problems during the winter. The tune-up can increase the service life of the furnace. It can also improve the performance and Energy Efficiency of the machine. Each and every heating and AC repair and installation company will have a different checklist for the service tune up, but my local company performs a service tune up that includes 80 different parts of the machine. They check all of the electrical connections, gas lines, and the thermostat and carbon monoxide levels. They clean and inspect the interior and exterior of the furnace. They check the heat exchanger, gas pressure, ignition system, and exhaust system. The entire tune-up takes about an hour and the local heating and AC repair and installation company only charges $89 for the full service tune up. They also perform a full service tune up on the AC system, but I never run the central AC during the summer months. I usually just open up the doors and let the breeze move through the house. I get a great breeze coming down from the mountains and it rarely gets above 85 in the summer. I have three large trees by the house that provide a great deal of shade too. Sometimes it can be humid and sunny, but I don’t mind dealing with the warm temperatures or the extra moisture in the air.
