Was marijuana legal back then?

When I turned eighteen, I was talking to my mom about the legalizing of medical marijuana.

  • I asked her if she would use it if something happened to her health.

She told me that if she a problem with her health that medical marijuana could help, she would get a medical marijuana ID card. It surprised me when I heard this. I thought that mom, being as strict as she was with me & sibling, & regularly preaching about the dangers of drugs, would be against medical marijuana. She said she wouldn’t be quick to purchase recreational marijuana if it was legalized, but she had nothing against medical marijuana & thought it was a breakthrough for the medical field. I asked her if they had ever had legal marijuana back when she was younger. She changed the subject & said she had things I enjoy doing doing, even though I wasn’t ready to shut up yet. She told me that when she was younger; she was a stupid teenager just like all youngsters going through that stage. She was a bit more wild than I was, & yes, she had tried marijuana. No, marijuana was not legal. I didn’t think if I wanted to be in shock or laugh at her omission. It was nice having a heart-to-heart about medical & recreational marijuana when I was only sixteen. Now that I’m older, mom & I have had various conversations about medical marijuana now that it has been legalized. She told me she had talked to her doctor about using medical marijuana for her RA & asked me to go with her to the doctor who would help her get her ID card.
